So, I was on a date with an exceptionally warm and generous host. She had the best of delicacies to offer, there were crunchy potato chips which one rarely finds in India. For desserts, amongst other things was an irresistible dark chocolate bar that her brother got from Iran and a delicious carrot cake. In just a few hours, we build amazing chemistry, the conversation with her flowed freely.  The bluesy music in the backdrop was just adding to the eclectic experience. It was way past midnight, but I just didn’t want to leave. She had the office in the morning, so with a heavy heart I booked my Uber. Production concept Product Selling concept Marketing concept Societal marketing concept The production concept highlights that a business can lower costs via mass production.  As a whole, the production concept is oriented towards operations. The product concept works on an assumption that customers prefer products of greater quality and price, but availability doesn’t influence their purchase decision. The selling concept highlights that customers would buy a company’s products only if the company were to sell these products aggressively. This philosophy doesn’t include building relations with customers. This means that a brand is so strong that customers would always prefer your brand to others. The societal marketing concept highlights the needs and wants of a target market and the delivery of better value than its competitors, it also emphasizes the importance of the well-being of customers and society as a whole (consumer welfare or societal welfare). Interestingly it can be used in the dating context too. First is the production concept. According to this, women go for the lowest hanging fruits or the dates with the least lead time, nothing else matters. Then comes the product concept which translates into a guy trying to achieve his best self (according to him) in every way possible; be it getting a pumped-up body or buying a swanky car, without actually knowing what the consumer (potential date) is looking for in a man. Then comes the selling concept which essentially translates into hard selling himself to a potential date. And then comes the marketing concept where the guy divides the dating pool of girls into various segments (segmentation), then targets the group of interest (targeting) and positioning for that target market in a way that they feel that it is an ideal match (positioning). Finally is the societal marketing concept which talks about marketing with ethics. It essentially translates into not misleading the date by lying about anything. That brings me to the exceptionally warm host. So is this it? Has it finally happened? Is love the ‘icing on the carrot cake’?  Well, we were looking for different things out of dating at that point in time. I didn’t want to mislead and hurt her later on as my ethics don’t allow me.
